Shame can impact sexuality in many ways, including sexual dysfunction, performance anxiety, out-of-control sexual behavior, concerns with sexual organs, sexual expression and interests, as well as gender and sexual identity. I work clients to help them unravel shame from their sexuality. I strive to destigmatize sexuality and sexual health while helping clients develop sexual integrity and acceptance. I provide sex-positive care, striving to normalize self-knowing, self-pleasure and self-respect.
I work with clients to help them learn about their sexuality and understand it in context to their past, present and future development. Sexuality plays a significant role in each human developmental stage. However, cultural and moral beliefs limit how sexuality is treated and expressed based on age, gender, race, ability, class and other identities.
I work with clients who wish to explore the intersecting realms of sexuality and disability. Common themes that arise include: Supporting sexuality through an access-centered lens, expanding sex education, exploring sexual identity and expression while combatting that stigmatized ways disabled people have been pigeon-holed within sexuality (abuse/victimization, purity, etc.); and unpacking ways that ableism and erotophobia stop disabled people from developing and maintaining intimacy/relationships.
The 2SLGBTQIA+ community is broad and diverse, including sexually and gender diverse people. I work with clients to help them explore their sexuality and gender, ranging from identity to expression, to transitioning, pod-mapping and accessing affirming healthcare and community services. Additionally, I provide a safe, affirming space for processing and treatment for clients who wish to work on issues unrelated to their 2SLGBTQIA+ identities.
Sexual expression can include identities, behaviors, and/or characteristics. Common identities include 2SLGBTQIA+ people, polyamorous and consensually nonmonogamous (CNM) people, kinky people and people with non-sexual identities. Sexually diverse people have been historically marginalized, medicalized and pathologized in our society. I am poly, kink and ace-knowledgeable in my practice, meaning that I serve clients who may be seeking therapy for sexual expression-related reasons, or simply seeking affirming care.
I work with clients to support them on their journey of body liberation, respect and self-acceptance.
I operate from a body liberation and weight-neutral lens. I work to dismantle and dispel fatphobia and diet culture with clients. I embrace the Health at Every Size® (HAES®) principles of weight inclusivity, health enhancement, respectful care, eating for well-being, and life-enhancing movement.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a neurodivergent condition and not inherently a "disorder." However, when untreated and/or heightened symptoms become distressing, OCD can be incredibly disruptive and is considered one of the top ten most disabling mental illnesses in the world. (Pinto et al., 2012). While OCD can be highly distressing and disruptive to one's life, symptoms of OCD are highly treatable and manageable. Those suffering with OCD can benefit from a combination of therapeutic treatments including the following: Cognitive-behavioral approaches (specifically Exposure & Response Prevention), psychiatric medications, supplemental family/relationship therapy, and community/group support. I specialize in treating individuals with OCD. To learn more about OCD, you can visit the OCD Treatment page.
Trauma-focused therapy is a group of specific approaches to treatment that primarily focus on trauma recovery. I specialize in supporting individuals and families anywhere in the perinatal process, including: Abortion support, experiencing perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) during and after pregnancy, stressors related to parenthood, and decisions regarding family building. I focus on working with historically marginalized clients (2SLGBTQIA+, BIPOC, disabled, SWers, neurodivergent, fat, etc.). I strive to advocate for racial justice, disability justice, and reproductive justice both in-and-out of sessions. To learn more about perinatal mental health, you can visit the Perinatal-Focused Care page.
